Version 17 is coming soon. Are you ready?

Who’s excited about Version 17?  Beta is planned for September 26.  Clients who have signed up for beta will receive email instructions for how to download the update when the download becomes available.  Certified Resellers will also receive a copy of the email to clients.

To assist resellers in learning about Version 17, recordings of recent reseller training sessions are available online until end of day, October 21st.  The training sessions are discounted for those who attended the Reseller Forum this past April.  Follow this link to sign up:  http://www.eventbrite.com/org/360605693.

Don’t forget to recruit clients (especially clients interested in the General Ledger and Document Management enhancements) to participate in beta so that we can get Version 17 to market quickly.  Once a client is ready, use this form (www.tabs3.com/v17Preview) to sign them up.

Platinum Net 30 Promotion

We are having our best year ever for Platinum sales!  Many of you are taking advantage of the Net 30 terms we offer for any firm upgrading to Platinum or Platinum SQL.  It’s a great way for a firm to “try before they buy”.  It’s simple.  A firm pays nothing up front, signs a short document stating they’ll pay their reseller within 30 days of the upgrade order, then they use it for a month.  Once Platinum or Platinum SQL is installed, a firm is usually quite reluctant to return the product once they see the benefits for themselves.  Check out our Knowledge Base Article Platinum Version Net 30 Trial Plan for additional information.  If you have questions about the Net 30 terms, please contact your sales representative, or any member of the Sales Department.

Remarketing

Starting this month, you may begin to receive leads with a source of “Remarketing.” Remarketing is a relatively new online marketing tool that allows us to serve ads to people who visited our website but left without becoming a lead.

After a prospective client visits our website, they may see our banner ads on other websites that they visit – including those outside of the legal technology industry.

Remarketing is a cost-effective way for us to get even more leads for you. Please let your sales rep know if you have any questions.

ODBC Licenses for Version 17 Platinum Installs

The standard ODBC driver must be updated for all Platinum (not Platinum SQL) users as they update to Version 17. A separate update CD for the ODBC driver will be shipped to Platinum firms with the ODBC driver(s).  In order to maintain your ODBC functionality, please update Tabs3 and PracticeMaster Version 17 (including Version 17 beta) and your ODBC driver(s) at the same time.

To sign up for beta, visit www.tabs3.com/v17preview. The more firms we have previewing Version 17 and providing feedback, the sooner we can release it for new sales.

The loss of a colleague and friend – Ross Kodner

In case you have not heard, yesterday our friend and colleague, Ross Kodner, passed away after suffering a heart attack. Ross had been a key member of our consultant and reseller family for over 25 years.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be truly missed.  Rest in peace, Ross.

Jim Degnan asked that we pass the following on to the channel:

Ross Kodner Memorial Fund

The Reseller Channel wishes to express its deepest sympathy for the passing of our fellow reseller, business partner and friend, Ross Kodner.  Ross freely participated in our list serve and annual conferences and helped many of us along the way.  A memorial fund has been created on behalf of the Reseller Channel to allow for a joint expression of our sense of loss.

Those resellers wishing to contribute should make their check payable to the Ross Kodner Memorial Fund and mail to:

Jim Degnan
CompassPOINT Legal

Proceeds will be donated in keeping with the wishes of the family. Any questions should be directed to Jim Degnan:

Trade Show Materials

We are in the heart of tradeshow season, and there are many opportunities to exhibit and speak at local conferences.  It’s a great way to get your name out to the legal community, and we’re happy to help.

Simply contact your sales rep and let them know of your event.  Be sure to let them know the date(s), and how many attendees are expected.  We’ll provide the marketing materials and list your event on our web site to support your efforts.

Contacting your local ALA chapter is a great place to see what opportunities might be available.

Proper use of Credit Card Merchant Accounts

When discussing credit card processing with clients and prospects, please keep in mind that the same merchant account configuration is used for both Tabs3 payments, as well as Client Funds transactions. Therefore, deposits will be made to the same bank account for both types of transactions.

Tabs3 Trust Accounting Software (TAS) must be used if your client needs to accept credit card transactions for client trust deposits. Before configuring a client to make a trust payment with a credit card, you should talk to your state bar about rules for accepting credit card payments for trust accounts because it differs by state. TSYS Merchant Solutions can provide your clients with a merchant account specifically designed for trust accounting which can take fees and chargebacks out of an operating account, instead of taking them out of a trust account, if that is what you need to satisfy your state bar trust requirements.

Unfortunately, we cannot support firms that attempt to use the same merchant account for Tabs3 payments and TAS deposits.  Please contact a member of Technical Support if you have questions.

New look to Leads

We’ve recently made changes to our web site in an effort to provide better experiences for prospects, as well as to increase the number of web leads we generate.  Web site leads that we distribute come as one of three types:  Prospects who review the online demo; download trial software; or request a trial CD be mailed.  The type of lead you are receiving will be mentioned in the lead data, or in the subject line.  If a trial was requested, an additional line will appear in the lead data labeled “Delivery Method”, and will read as “cd” or “download”.

You will notice many leads no longer include address information.  The more information we ask for, the less likely a prospect is to fill out an online form.  Leads you receive without address information are not of lesser quality.  Most times, address information can easily be found online if you wish to mail materials.  We prompt for an address only when a prospect requests that a trial CD be mailed.  When a firm requests the trial via download, they receive an e-mail with instructions and a link.  Since the recent change, a large portion of those requesting trial software have done so via download.

When a prospect lists their firm size as 6 or more, we will attempt to locate address information so that we can send a large firm brochure and trial CD.  When we gather this information, we will include it when we send the lead to you.  Please contact your sales rep with questions.
