Tabs3 Transporter Update

Due to popular demand for the free Timeslips conversions, we are no longer scheduling free conversions from Timeslips to Tabs3. We anticipate Tabs3 Transporter, the new program for converting Timeslips data to Tabs3, will be released and available for free download in May, 2012.  Additional details regarding Tabs3 Transporter can be found in R11476, Tabs3 Transporter – Timeslips Data Conversion Program.

Updated Brochures and Pricing Sheets

Updated brochures and pricing sheets have been added to eNews.  They are located in Brochures under the Marketing tab.  You can also find a Reseller pricing sheet here.  Contact your sales representative if you have questions.

Update CDs Resent

Before the end of last year, we sent update CDs to all customers on maintenance when version 16 was released.  These updates were sent in groups throughout the summer and fall.  Unfortunately, several firms reported damaged CDs.  Two separate shipments (November 1st and December 13th), were admittedly handled improperly by the post office.  We are sending replacement CDs to these groups this week along with a letter of explanation from Dan Berlin (see below).  If you have a firm that has received a bad CD, please contact a member of the sales department and we’ll get a new one sent.

February 29, 2012

Dear Tabs3 and PracticeMaster Client,

Enclosed you will find a new Version 16 update CD to replace the one that we previously sent. After several clients called to report damaged CDs, we met with the post office.  They investigated and confirmed that they incorrectly handled and damaged many of our update CDs. In case your firm was affected, we are sending this replacement, so that you can avoid going to the trouble of requesting one.

The Version 16 update is one of the many benefits of your annual maintenance contract. I hope that you have a chance to install it soon.  Version 16 is one of our most significant updates in years.  From e-mailing statements in batches to the new Matter Manager, Version 16 has new and enhanced features that make a real difference in the daily work of law firms.

Please contact our office if you have any questions, and thank you for your continued support of Tabs3 and PracticeMaster.

Sincerely,

Dan Berlin
President

P.S.  If you would like assistance installing the update, or training on its new features, please contact your local consultant or our support department at (402) 419-2210.

LTN Discontinues Vendor Awards

For the past 8 years, Tabs3 won top honors in the Law Technology News awards.  However, this past year, LTN discontinued recognizing vendors with awards voted on by their readers.  Even though these awards are discontinued, you can still tell your clients that Tabs3 remains the most award winning legal billing software for solo, small, and mid-sized firms, having won top LTN awards for 8 consecutive years.

PracticeMaster Platinum Program Update Notice

An issue was recently discovered that could result in a program lock-up after canceling a column sort.

The option to cancel a column sort, which requires building a temporary index, was added to PracticeMaster Platinum in Version 16.1.

We have posted updated program files on our Version 16 Download Site that removed the ability to cancel a column sort in order to prevent the issue from occurring.

We are currently working with FairCom on an update to the Platinum server to restore the “Cancel” functionality. We plan on updating our Platinum users as soon as this issue is resolved.

Version 16 PracticeMaster Platinum users should update their program files as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary problems in the future. In the meantime, users can create permanent indexes for the columns they wish to sort.

Our Technical Support Department is available to assist you with any questions you may have.

We appreciate your cooperation and thank you in advance for downloading this update in a timely manner.

Default date logic updated for Tabs3 and PracticeMaster

The Tabs3 Fee, Cost, and Payment editors, as well as the PracticeMaster Fee and Cost editors will now default the date of new records to that of the last record ADDED during the editing session. It will default to “Today” if it is the first record added during the session.

Before this change, Tabs3 defaulted the transaction date to the date of the last record ADDED or CHANGED. PracticeMaster always defaulted to the current date.

Version 16 Changes

Based on feedback from users, the following program enhancements were made in version 16.

PracticeMaster

In September of 2011, a Keep Linked check box was added to the Calendar editor in version 16 to indicate whether the calendar record is part of a series of linked calendar records. When a calendar entry was made with only one User assigned to it, the Keep Linked check box was cleared upon saving the entry.

Beginning with version 16.1.2.1054 dated 1/23/2012 and later, if the check box is cleared and a single user has been selected, the Keep Linked check box will be automatically selected upon saving the record. This is done to ensure that any users added to the User/Group field of the record at a later time will be linked by default.

Accounts Payable (APS)

APS users with access rights to Post Checks, Void Posted Checks, Post Unpaid Invoices, Unpost Unpaid Invoices, or Unpost Single Unpaid Invoice programs no longer need rights to add journal entries in GLS in order for APS to automatically post applicable GLS journal entries.

Time Matters Integration

Currently our documentation states that Tabs3 version 16 does not integrate with Time Matters. However, we recently received word from LexisNexis that they will not be changing their Time Matters software to integrate with version 16 of Tabs3.  Therefore we have added the following statement to our documents:

Note:  Tabs3 version 16 does not integrate with any version of Time Matters.  LexisNexis® was provided with the Tabs3 file formats and have elected not to integrate with the current version of Tabs3 at this time. Please contact LexisNexis® with any questions regarding their decision.

Shipping Changes

We recently made minor changes to shipping costs to adjust for price increases by UPS.  Below are new shipping costs for COD and prepaid letters.  Please contact a member of the Sales Department at 402-419-2200 to verify prices such as unit shipping (any order containing multiple CDs or conversion instructions), Saturday delivery, or shipping beyond the lower 48 states.

Rename & Merge Contacts Anytime

We recently changed the Rename Contact and Merge Contacts programs so they can be used while other users are in the software. These programs are no longer exclusive, thereby making it easier to perform these routine tasks. Download these changes from our Web site and tell your clients to do the same. We plan on informing users on December 15 via our newsletter popup message.  These changes are available in Version 16.1.2.1013 and will have a date of 11/30/2011 or later.
