Conversion Changes – Good News!

We are excited to update you on a few changes we’ve made to help improve the experience firms have when converting to a newer version. Earlier this fall, we posted improvements to the Version 19 and Version 2020 conversion programs that reduce the possibility of failures due to network or file locking issues because of third party programs such as antivirus.

On December 23, we posted additional improvements to the Version 2020 conversion program, one of which allows you to restart an interrupted conversion. However, we do not recommend attempting to restart the conversion more than once unless the failure was caused by an outside factor such as a power failure or closing the program before it completed the conversion.

In the rare event that the conversion from Version 19 to Version 2020 is interrupted, before restoring from a backup, we recommend you contact Tabs3 Technical Support with a screenshot, the conversion log, and the error log so that we can track down exactly what’s preventing the conversion from completing.

Taskbill Resources

Taskbill exports billed fee and cost transactions from Tabs3 Billing in an electronic format. Exported data can then be sent to companies that require electronic billing in a specific format. Using Taskbill can be challenging due to the increasing number of formats and configuration options available. To help make this process easier, the following resources are available:

  • New VideoeBilling Using Tabs3 and Taskbill walks users through the basics of configuring and exporting statements using Taskbill.
  • Knowledge Base Article R11737, “Configuring and Using Taskbill,” is a one stop shop for Taskbill configuration and export instructions.
  • Knowledge Base Article R11769, “LEDES 1998B Subformat Information for Taskbill,” breaks down the most commonly used eBilling format (LEDES 1998B) with details for where field information is pulled from and how the export file will look.

A Friend Retires

I have good news for some, bad news for others.  The good news is, Jim Degnan has retired.  The bad news is, Jim Degnan has retired!  After years (who are we trying to kid, decades) of supporting and selling Tabs3 software, Jim has traded in his Tabs3 polo shirt and slacks for something a bit more comfortable – swim trunks.  We expect him to do what most Floridian retirees do, cruise around in a boat with grandkids, getting a tan and watching the sun go down.  We appreciate all of Jim’s efforts over the years.  Good luck in retirement Jim, you’ll be missed as a colleague and friend to many.

Version 17 Sunset Reminder

Just a reminder that as of November 1st we’ve sunset Version 17.  We did offer a 60 day grace period for firms still interested in getting support, but that is about to expire.  Beginning with the new-year we will no longer support Version 17 and prior versions at all, so be sure to let your customers know.  It’s a good way to generate sales and service work.  Use your QBR to determine what firms are affected by this change.

Tabs3 TechnoLawyer NewsWire

We’ve partnered with TechnoLawyer to produce an article on Tabs3 Version 2020, “Steer Your Firm to Success With the New Financial Dashboards in Tabs3 Software”.  It covers the new dashboards as well as LawPay and Positive Pay integrations.  It’s a great piece to share with clients and prospects!  For those that exhibit at tradeshows you can also expect to receive hard copies of this brochure when receiving materials.

Tabs3 Version 2020 Template

Just a reminder to notify your customers about the release of Tabs3 Version 2020 by using the template recently sent to your attention by Bruce Policky, our Client Success Manager.  It’s a great opportunity to make customers aware of the new features now available to them and to generate service work.  If you didn’t receive the template, lost it, ignored it, and need it resent, please let Joe know.

Synching Maintenance Dates

Occasionally we receive requests for firms wanting to synch maintenance dates for all the licenses they use. Doing so helps with budgeting and prevents confusion on their part if receiving maintenance invoices throughout the year.  With the release of Version 2020 and mandatory maintenance we expect this request to become more common.

To request a custom invoice synching of maintenance dates, email [email protected] or call 402-419-2200 and follow the prompts to request pricing.  Keep in mind that maintenance expiration dates will change when upgrading any license.  Also, be aware that we cannot make adjustments to Server Software maintenance dates, so if you have a Platinum customer requesting a synch the custom invoice will reflect costs to match the Server Software maintenance expiration date.
