Reindex Files with Delete Option Requires Access Code

An Access Code is now required in order to reindex files using the Delete records that contain errors option. This option should only be used for specific troubleshooting circumstances, which are rare. If you try to run the Reindex Files with the Delete records that contain errors option, you will be asked to provide an Access Code to unlock the delete option. You must contact Technical Support for the Access Code, which will be provided once your particular situation has been reviewed. Using this option may result in a loss of data, that can typically only be fixed by restoring from a good backup.

The Knowledge Base articles have been updated to reflect this new procedure. If you think you need to run the Reindex Files program using the Delete records that contain errors option, we recommend that you check the specific error’s Knowledge Base article for updated troubleshooting steps. This new requirement is present in all Version 17 and 18 programs dated June 10, 2016 or later (i.e., Version 17.1.3.1372 or later, and Version 18.1.3.463 or later).

QuickBooks® Remote Data Sharing (RDS) Changes

QuickBooks Remote Data Sharing (RDS) software allows Tabs3 users to pass information to the QuickBooks data files without having QuickBooks installed on each workstation. QuickBooks RDS version 2.1 is not compatible with Windows 8 or later and is no longer supported by QuickBooks. QuickBooks RDS version 6 is compatible with all currently supported versions of Windows, but works with Tabs3 version 18 only.

As a result, we have removed QuickBooks RDS from the Tabs3 installation CD and have updated our documentation so that users know which version of QuickBooks RDS they should download and use based on which versions of Windows and Tabs3 they are using.

Knowledge Base Article R10884, “QuickBooks Remote Data Sharing,” has been updated to include the following information:

  • A table that shows which version of RDS is required based on the version of Windows being used and the version of Tabs3 installed.
  • A link to download QuickBooks RDS version 6.
  • Instructions for installing and using each version.
  • An updated troubleshooting section.

Changes to Platinum Exchange Connector

The Platinum Exchange Connector integrates with Exchange via the same API that Outlook uses – the Microsoft Messaging API (MAPI). Historically there have been two providers of MAPI, Outlook and a stand-alone program called Exchange MAPI. The Platinum Exchange Connector has always supported both providers up until now.

The Exchange MAPI provider is no longer supported by Microsoft. Therefore, effective immediately, we will no longer support the installation of Exchange MAPI on Platinum servers, and instead will require firms to install Microsoft Outlook 2007 SP3 or later on their Platinum server in order to integrate with our Platinum Exchange Connector. Although firms will need to acquire an additional Outlook license, eliminating Exchange MAPI will provide a more stable and overall better experience. We have updated our documentation to reflect this change. Knowledge Base Article R11596 includes information on configuring the Platinum Exchange Connector.

Using ODBC Driver with Platinum SQL

When Version 18 is released this year, firms will no longer have the ability to use the legacy, stand-alone ODBC driver with Platinum SQL.  The SQL version already includes a better, faster ODBC driver.  A few firms that have upgraded to Platinum SQL have not yet taken the time to transfer their queries and reports to the SQL ODBC driver. If you are aware of firms that fit this scenario, you should let them know. We will be contacting firms in possession of both drivers before they receive Version 18 to be sure they’re aware of this change. We will also mention it in upcoming newsletter(s), and mention it during sales and support calls when appropriate.

New Network Troubleshooting Guide

We recently updated our Network Troubleshooting Guide to help you more efficiently diagnose and troubleshoot network related issues. This article has the information you need in one place and includes links to various other resources to help you and IT personnel know where to start with troubleshooting steps. New “Copy All” Feature

We recently added the ability to copy all records from any list to the Windows clipboard using Ctrl+Alt+C. Although Ctrl+C copies all selected records, there previously was no way to copy all records from lists that did not allow more than one record to be selected. This new Copy All feature works on all lists, and is available in all Version 17.1.1.807 or later products.
